Southwest Airlines is growing its presence in Hawaii once again by adding flights between the islands and from mainland United States later this year.
According to BigIslandNow.com, Hawaii Island Mayor Harry Kim revealed during a speech last week that Southwest will be adding four daily flights between Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu and Hilo International Airport later this year.
Mayor Kim also announced that officials from Southwest planned to launch direct flights between Hilo and mainland U.S. before the holidays. When the new service begins, Hilo International will be the airline's fifth airport serviced in the state.
Southwest already offers flights to the Big Island's Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole.
"We're excited to announce that Hilo will be the fifth airport served by Southwest in the Hawaiian Islands," Southwest said on its Facebook page.
