Travelers flying out of Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport may experience flight delays for flights on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. High winds have forced the cancellation of at least 60 flights, with the U.K. being the most affected arrival destination.
Ahead of winds forecast to be more than 30 miles per hour, several airlines have grounded planes. According to a report in the Independent, at least 62 arrivals and departures between Amsterdam and the U.K. were affected, the vast majority on Dutch airline, KLM.
The airline has grounded flights between Amsterdam and Heathrow, London City, Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Durham Tees Valley, Leeds Bradford, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Humberside and Norwich. Those flying between these destinations should contact the airline for updated flight information.
Easyjet has also canceled flights from London Stansted and Liverpool.
Flights between Amsterdam and Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Geneva, Madrid, Munich, Oslo and Stockholm have also been affected.
Travelers can look to Europe's rail system for some alternatives. Airlines should also offer passengers meals and accommodations until they can reach their appointed destination.
