AmaWaterways has christened its second ship in Colombia, the AmaMelodia, celebrating the event in Barranquilla this week.
The ceremony was attended by members of the AmaWaterways brand, along with ProColombia, Colombia’s official tourism agency, and community leaders. Elisabeth Mercado Herrera, the first woman to become a river cruise captain on the Rio Magdalena, served as the ship's godmother.
AmaMelodia offers a boutique-style river cruise experience with accommodations for just 64 guests. It was designed by Colombian architect Camilo Restrepo, ensuring the interior and exterior reflect the local culture.
“As we continue to expand beyond our European roots, destinations like Colombia represent an exciting part of AmaWaterways’ future,” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways. “With AmaMelodia, we are building on our commitment to offer more diverse and immersive experiences in new regions, while continuing to deliver the high-quality journeys our guests expect.”
The ship will sail on the Magic of Colombia and Wonders of Colombia itineraries along the Rio Magdalena, visiting destinations like Mompox, Palenque, the first free town in the Americas, La Mojana wetlands, Santa Bárbara de Pinto and more. Travelers can also visit Medellín and Cartagena as part of pre- or post-cruise land packages.
