Following the announcement that it would be returning to Caribbean cruising to do good, Fathom is beginning to thrive again aboard Princess Cruises.

Crown Princess voyage sold out during its first inaugural group on the January 20, 2018, and more impact travel has been planned across the fleet.

"I've always believed there is an appetite among travelers to combine their passion for adventure with their desire for meaning, purpose and deep connection," said Tara Russell, Fathom president & Carnival Corporation global impact lead, in a press release.

"Now more than ever, our friends in the Caribbean need us to show up, support kids and families as they return to school and build normalcy in their daily lives. These cruises offer guests a transformative opportunity to make an impact in these communities."

After recent hurricanes devastated the region, Fathom's support of local communities means passengers can lend a helping hand. Those wishing to join have two additional opportunities to do so in spring 2018 on seven-day sailings leaving roundtrip from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida:

-Regal Princess departing March 18, 2018

-Caribbean Princess departing May 26, 2018

In keeping with the social brand, experiences will incorporate small group leaders, impact guides and special onboard events and activities. All of this will be in addition to the chance for volunteering shoreside.

The first 8-day Crown Princess cruise will call on Antigua, St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Amber Cove. Passengers will be immersed in island life and connected with the region as they participate in a donation drop and community care. Other opportunities include the chance to rebuild, clean up beaches, reforest and provide arts therapy.

Those interested in aiding the cause, but not sailing, can donate by visiting youcaring.com/puertoplata-991506. All proceeds go towards the rebuilding of the Loma de la Bestia community in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

Fathom originally started out as its own cruise line under the Carnival Corporation umbrella, deploying the Adonia to the DR and later Cuba as well. When the ship was transferred out, the brand continued as a volunteer tour option on ships elsewhere in the corporate fleet.

Now with dedicated groups aboard Princess Cruises, Fathom can operate much as it did at first, with more programming onboard and off. In fact, without being limited to a single ship, the brand can easily mobilize volunteers wherever they might best be served around the world.

If the program continues to prove successful, it might expand accordingly.
