There's no doubt about it: river cruising is now a mainstay segment of the travel industry.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has seen close to a 50 percent growth in riverboats since 2014 and projects more through 2020. Helping cruisers navigate these new waters is Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection.

In fact, with so many river destinations to choose from, the luxury line is offering potential deeper dives and alternatives to those who may have already frequented the tried and true.

To start, wine lovers who have appreciated all Bordeaux has to offer, might look to the Duoro Valley for their next adventure. Portugal is yet another hot spot for connoisseurs, and Uniworld's 11-day Portugal, Spain & The Douro River Valley itinerary opens up Lisbon, the scenic hillsides and village vineyard homes of unmistakable Ports and refreshing white wines.

Extending the experience further is the optional 13-day Jewels of Spain, Portugal & the Douro River trip from Lisbon to Madrid with more shoreside elements tacked on. The 11-day trip already includes Lisbon by land, but the 13-day one adds Madrid, Toledo and Salamanca.

Similarly, if you've already been to Budapest and seen its magnificent medieval castles and other breathtaking cultural sights and sounds, Uniworld suggests heading North West to Ghent. Available on its 10-day Tulips & Windmills route from Amsterdam to Antwerp, the port city is known for its stunning architecture, canals, pedestrian center, modern art, regional shops and street food.

All can be appreciated by hipsters and non-hipsters alike.

More exotically, India presents a fascinating destination for those who have already done Egypt. The Nile is often perceived as the cradle of civilization. With Egypt now rebounding following political unrest, a 13-day India's Golden Triangle & The Sacred Ganges itinerary may be a welcomed alternative.

Here, the river has allowed a tenth or more of the global population to flourish thanks to ample food, water and fish. Journeying along, guests will have the opportunity to visit the "Golden Triangle" of Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. India's historical and religious history as well as the famed Taj Mahal will be on display.
