In a constant effort to better its guests' vacation experience, Norwegian Cruise Line has released the next version of its complimentary Cruise Norwegian mobile app.
The tool assists passengers from booking through disembarkation onboard and off the ship.
"Whether they're 60 days from their sail date or in the middle of their cruise, the Cruise Norwegian app brings seamless anytime-access to a myriad of onboard offerings, services and activities right into the palms of our guests' hands," said Andy Stuart, president and chief executive officer for Norwegian Cruise Line, in a press release.
"Once on board, the Cruise Norwegian app will allow guests to continue customizing their ideal cruise experience and view or manage their existing account information, allowing them to maximize their time and spend it on the things they enjoy the most."
That includes easing embarkation. The app can pull up directions to the port and access mobile online check-in functions for a quick and paperless e-doc boarding experience.
Onboard the ship, guests connect to the Wi-Fi network and open the app, making it easy to stay abreast of all daily activities. The app is also capable of helping guests preview and reserve shore excursions, place dining and entertainment reservations and buy dining, beverage and special occasion packages.
One of the only things that costs extra is the onboard calling and messaging function-which permits passengers to give fellow guests unlimited shouts via voice or text-for a flat $9.95 for the length of the cruise. Group messaging even allows for planning meet-ups and sharing photos. Otherwise, outbound shoreside calling through the app is priced at $0.79 per minute to most countries.
When the cruise is drawing to a close, helpful tools additionally include reviewing shipboard purchases by displaying guest portfolios. Immigration and Easy Walk-off disembarkation details can also be viewed.
Additionally, guests can look forward to future sailings by seeing their Latitudes Rewards point counts and tier benefits as well as information about Norwegian's Cruise Next program.
Having personally used a previous version of the app, I can say it was quite handy. Replacing paper programs with a digital device in one's pocket without the need to go to the guest services desk is always helpful. Freestyle choices on Norwegian are more easily managed via personal smartphone than at kiosks as well.
Text messaging is becoming common through such apps, but calling guests through them is less so. That will be a fun feature to try next.
Just be sure to download the app to your smartphone before the cruise when internet access is free.
The new generation of the Cruise Norwegian app is ready to use on Norwegian Sky and will be available on the line's new Norwegian Bliss during summer 2018. It will roll out to the rest of the fleet by the end of 2018.
