On April 11, Italy's Fincantieri shipyard delivered Le Lyrial, a 244-guest cruise ship, to the French luxury line Ponant.
The new ship, which will fly the French flag, is the fourth sister to L'Austral, Le Boreal, and Le Soleal, which were delivered in May 2010, April 2011, and June 2013, respectively.
Le Lyrial - the name refers to the Lyra constellation in the northern hemisphere - was handed over at the shipyard in Ancona, Italy.
The four sister ships are often referred to as mega-yachts for their small, 11,000-ton size, which allows them to visit ports inaccessible to larger vessels.
Le Lyrial has 122 cabins and suites, all with sea views and 94 percent with a private balcony. The lowest-category Superior Stateroom measures a roomy 226 square feet while Deluxe Staterooms are 200 square feet with a 43-square-foot balcony. It has an entire deck of suites with some larger than those on its sister ships.
Fincantieri said the ship is equipped with the latest environmentally-friendly technology such as an energy-saving lighting system that exclusively uses LEDs made in Italy. In addition, the shipbuilder said Le Lyrial has such low levels of vibration and noise that it was awarded "Comfort Class" classification by the certifying board Bureau Veritas.
