The new Koningsdam from Holland America Line is getting closer to its grand unveiling in April 2016, and thanks to the line's new "Countdown to Koningsdam" video series, we have more insight into the ship's inaugural year itineraries.
The ship's Cruise Director, Johnathan Rogers, once again hosts the episode that this time features Vice President Deployment and Tour Marketing Linda Springmann as she presents the areas of the world, including the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and Caribbean, the ship will initially cover after it first departs the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.
There will be a seven-day Premiere Voyage leaving from Rome, Italy to call on Greece and Dubrovnik, Croatia before a couple of other Mediterranean sailings. An eastbound sailing features an overnight stop in Istanbul, Turkey, and a westbound one includes a Barcelona, Spain overnight.
What's interesting, although not entirely unusual, is that the Koningsdam's Christening Cruise is scheduled after these first sailings with an embarkation in Rome before setting out for its homeport of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Following the dedication will be a series of seven- and 14-day alternating Northern European cruises, plus a special itinerary to Iceland, the U.K. and Scotland, where the ship will be in Edinburgh for the military tattoo.
Then for September and October, the ship will return to the Mediterranean for a season of eastern and western voyages before heading for the Caribbean from Rome to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on Oct. 24, 2016. When in the region, she will make a call at Half Moon Cay, the line's private island destination, 16 times in her first year alone.
