The United States has a very diverse culture and history, and its culinary culture is no exception. It is home to internationally recognized food and drink brands like McDonald's and Coca-Cola and famous dishes like cheeseburgers and corndogs.

Due to its rich and diverse culinary history, the U.S. is home to several historic and unique restaurants; here are five such restaurants.

5. White Manna

These pioneers of fast food first began serving their famous mini burgers at the World Fair in 1939. Although the original building still stands today, it was moved from its original New York location to Jersey City. There is also a second White Manna location in Hackensack, New Jersey, which opened slightly later in 1946 and resembles a miniature version of a classic American diner.

4. Union Oyster House

This Boston staple opened in 1825 and is considered the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the U.S. The restaurant's menu has allegedly changed little since its opening. It specializes in seafood and traditional New England fare like lobster, clam chowder, lobster roll, Boston baked beans, and shucked oysters.

3. The Ice Cream Bar

This 1930s-style ice cream shop in San Francisco is covered head to toe in art deco charm. The Ice Cream Bar serves countless flavors of ice cream, shakes, sundaes, sandwiches, and cakes.

2. Nathan's Famous Hotdogs

First opened in 1916 in Coney Island, this New York staple is considered by many to be the most famous hot dog restaurant in the country and one of the most famous restaurants in N.Y. Nathan's menu includes signature hotdogs with a variety of toppings, seafood, burgers, fries, and their famous lemonade.

1. Brennans

Specializing in Creole fares, like seafood gumbo, crawfish risotto, roasted filet mignon, cote de boeuf, and smoked cornish hen. Brennans opened in 1946 and is considered a high-class staple of New Orleans.
