Where a concert or a show takes place can be just as important as the event itself. Many times, the venue adds to the experience.

Here are a few places in the United States that we would like to see a show, in no particular order:

Red Rocks: This park and amphitheater might be the most spectacular setting in the country, and it’s only 17 miles from Denver. U2, The Beatles and Johnny Cash are among the artists who have all played here, and they have even held Easter Sunday mass here.

Grand Old Opry: Country music’s Mecca. Nashville is lucky to have such a shrine. This is where you can see tomorrow’s superstars and the legends of the genre the next night. This isn’t where you come for the tour; you go for the music.

Madison Square Garden: In New York City, you haven’t lived until you have seen a musical concert here.

Broadway: Back in New York City, stay in the Times Square area and see a show. Yes, Broadway is mainly known for plays, musicals, and the occasional comedy show. But it is the perfect intimate setting for other events as well. Ever heard of Springsteen on Broadway?

Fox Theater: This is a hidden gem of the Midwest and Detroit. I saw Luther Vandross here more than 25 years ago and thought I had a crappy seat on the second level. It turns out that everything was fantastic.

Dolby Theater: If it’s good enough for the Academy Awards, it’s good enough for me.

Hollywood Bowl: This theater in the Hollywood hills of Los Angeles rivals any amphitheater in the country. Red Rocks has it beat by a hair because of esthetics.

Fort Lauderdale Beach: The annual Tortuga Festival is held every spring over a long weekend near the ocean. That alone makes it a beautiful place to see a show. It also draws already established and up-and-coming musical acts.

Symphony Hall: Home of the Boston Pops. Enough said.

Indio: This desert town in the Coachella Valley of California hosts a highly satisfying and meaningful musical and arts festival. Come and be a part of history, but don’t forget your tent, sunscreen, or water, especially if you don’t like paying $8 a bottle.
