Quintana Roo's appeal remains as strong as ever.

According to a recent study, visitor and hotel occupancy numbers are up significantly in Cancun and the surrounding Riviera Maya region heading into the low season.

Marketing Consultants crunched the numbers and found that the destinations hosted 7.6 million visitors from January 2017 to September 2017.

Cancun's 3.7 million visitors over the first nine months of the year signal a 2.8 percent jump from the same period last year while Riviera Maya's 3.9 million tourists mark a whopping 8.5 percent rise over the first nine months of 2016.

Hotel occupancy in Cancun also climbed two percentage points to 82.9 percent from January to September of this year.

Citing 350 surveys of travelers passing through Cancun International Airport, Marketing Consultants found that visitor spending in the region also increased over the first three-fourths of 2017 compared to the previous year.

What's more, data from Kayak.com based on flight searches conducted between January 1, 2017, to September 28, 2017, for travel between December 1, 2017, and January 15, 2018, found that Cancun ranks fourth among the top trending holiday destinations for Canadians in 2017.

After hosting 35 million visitors in 2016 and surpassing Turkey as the eighth-most popular destination in the world, Mexico's tourism industry appears poised for another banner year in 2017.

Last month, the Mexico Tourism Board confirmed that the country's tourist destinations and attractions are fully open and operational in wake of two earthquakes. "Visitors are experiencing the same hospitality, beautiful people, pristine landscapes and beaches, lively colonial towns and cities for which Mexico is famous," said board CEO, Hector Flores.

Plus, despite the U.S. State Department's expanded travel warning for Mexico, The Yucatan Times reports that travel agents and suppliers alike are "upbeat" about Cancun and the Riviera Maya.
