Las Vegas is a popular city to go to for a convention.
In fact, it is third in the country behind McCormick Place
in Chicago and the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
Now the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is
committing $600 million to renovate the convention center, which will not be
torn down. The original building will remain in place, as construction and
renovation will be timed so that the 1.4 million square foot facility is not
disrupted and still hosts conventions.
The project is set to be completed in 2025.
“We have been the number one tradeshow destination for
nearly three decades, and we are committed to being the number one tradeshow
destination for another three decades,” Steve Hill, president and CEO of the
Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), said. “This renovation
will provide our customers with an experience that will make them want to come
back year after year.”
Some of the amenities that will be featured in the new facility include:
- Only the North Hall of the exhibit space will be renovated.
- There will be an outdoor plaza and a special arrivals area.
- The two halls will be connected and climate controlled.
- A new parking lot will be constructed, and a new shuttle
stop will be installed.
- New technology upgrades will be more apparent.
The new convention center will boast more than 15,000,000 square
feet of space and be renovated by 600 workers. The plan was originally approved
by the Nevada State Legislature in 2016.
