The Mexican government and officials from the state of Quintana Roo have approved at least nine mega-projects for 2019.

According to Riviera Maya News, Proyectos Mexico revealed several investment projects set for next year, including construction of the bridge over the Nichupte lagoon; the first stage of the Maya Train between Cancun and Tulum; and the recovery of beaches in Riviera Maya, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and Cancun.

Another major project discussed was the 1.8 billion-peso expansion of the Tulum-Bacalar highway to four lanes. The focus on infrastructure is also expected to carry over to roads throughout Cancun that need work.

Officials are also working hard on beach recovery efforts in the region, with the Mexican government saying in its report, "The project's source of payment is under review. This may include budgetary resources as well as charges collected for the use of the Federal Terrestrial Maritime Zone (ZOFEMAT), among others."

Government officials said estimated competition dates for the projects vary, with some opening to the public in 2019 and others not making their debut until 2022.

The new projects join a long list of projects currently underway in the popular Mexican state, including the announcement of the mega-hotel project north of Playa del Carmen and the recent approval of the Amikoo Theme Park and Resort for Riviera Maya.
