Travelers in the Midwest and Northeast certainly know the drill by now. With a series of winter storms forecasted to impact those reeling regions over the weekend and into the start of next week, travelers would be wise to plan ahead.
According to Weather.com, the forecast calls for prolonged snow showers from parts of the Great Lakes all the way to New England.
The extensive storm is expected to bring snow to parts of the Upper Midwest on Friday before working its way east to New York and New England on Saturday. Snow is anticipated to persist in the Northeast on Sunday and Monday, becoming heavy at times and leaving some places with as much as a foot or more of accumulation.
"The potential is there for a heavy accumulation in some of the same places that were hit hard with feet of snow in the past two weeks," said AccuWeather.com chief meteorologist Elliot Abrams.
The most significant snowfall is expected in Western, central, and Upstate New York as well as in parts of New England, including Vermont, New Hampshire, southern Maine, much of Massachusetts, northern Connecticut and northern Rhode Island.
Meanwhile, a band of freezing rain is likely to stretch from the Great Lakes to the Northeast.
While many major airports across the Northeast are used to operating in poor conditions, recent Winter Storms Juno and Linus caused thousands of cancellations and countless headaches for travelers.
So far, airports across the Midwest and Northeast are operating per usual, with FlightAware.com reporting only 281 cancellations nationwide as of Friday afternoon.
Only eight flights within, into or out of the U.S. have been canceled for Saturday.
However, as the weather worsens, travelers should continually check up on their flight status and stay posted on the latest information from their airline.
