WHY IT RATES: All destinations part of the Mundo Maya are currently open and welcoming visitors without a quarantine requirement. -Codie Liermann, Senior Editor

As part of the work the Mundo Maya Organization is doing to promote tourism reopening of the Mayan region, today, the organization hosted a press conference to introduce members of the trade media to its virtual trade event scheduled to take place on July 27 to 29, 2021. This is an effort to increase interest in the event which aims to provide a platform where travel and tourism businesses in the Mundo Maya regions can network and hold meetings with tour operators and wholesalers from the Americas.

Registration is already underway, and participants will have access to select their one-on-one meetings begining July 19 when participants will log in to https://live.eventtia.com/es/dcobys_mundomaya/Inicio where they will be able to obtain more information on the other five countries that are members of the Mayan World: Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico.

The event will provide participants a three-day span where they can hold 15-minute virtual meetings to identify ways to work together.

Exhibitors representing the tourism sectors of Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico will participate in the virtual event, along with buyers, wholesalers, tour operators and travel agents from all five domestic markets as well as North American markets such as the U.S., Canada, Panama and the Dominican Republic and South American markets including Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru.

By entering in the meetings sections, they can log in under their own registration and access available time slots for each of the exhibitors and request meetings. Exhibitors will also be able to do the same as they can request meetings with international operators and wholesalers.

Members of the media and participants in general can access the platform and join us for the opening and closing ceremony as well as destination presentations done by each of the participating Ministries of Tourism, as well as the conference "Archeology in the Mayan World, New discoveries and their tourism potential", which will be presented by Dr. Tomas Barrientos.

The Mundo Maya Organization aims to position its region, once home to the ancient Mayan civilization, as a multi-destination. All of the members of the Mundo Maya are open and receiving visitors without a quarantine requirement. Though some require a negative antigen test to enter. The CDC places most of the region under risk level 3, the same level as the US and Canada, with the exception of El Salvador and Belize which fall under the more moderate risk level 2.

The Region receives tourists from all over the world. Most of the visitors come from the American continent from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America including Belize and Panama and from the South of America from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and also the Dominican Republic. In the case of Europe, the largest number of tourists who visit the Mayan World are from Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Russia, and from Asia, visitors are received mostly from Japan, Taiwan and Israel.

Generally, in normal years, the entry of tourists throughout the region has exceeded the average of 25 million tourists a year, so it is expected that after the recovery of tourism worldwide, the Mundo Maya region will be able to increase the figures by at least 30 million in the next year.

There are tourist circuits that tourism operators offer visitors, with all the transportation facilities, accommodation and tourist services necessary to visit all the countries in the region. There are also airlines that connect the different destinations and work is currently underway on other air connectivity projects that will be announced in the near future.
