A former highway will be transformed into a scenic walkway over the Seine River in Paris. According to Travel + Leisure, the Paris City Council approved the plans that will transform a two-mile stretch of highway into a pedestrian-only zone.
"Residents and visitors will soon have the ability to enjoy the calming views and intricate stone facades that line the riverside. The plan is part of Mayor Anne Hidalgo's efforts to decrease the city's pollution levels," writes T + L's Talia Avakian.
That walkway includes portions of a road from the Tuileries Garden toward the Bastille neighborhood - a part of which was already pedestrian only during the Paris Plages event each summer.
"The walkway will open to pedestrians, cyclists, and rollerblading enthusiasts who want to admire historic sights and sweeping views that line the banks of the Seine, with an official decree expected in the next few weeks," writes Avakain.
