The State of Quintana Roo, one of Mexico's top tourism hotspots encompassing 11 world-renowned destinations, including Cancun, Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Holbox and Tulum, is hosting some of the world's most sought-out sporting events this fall.
Cozumel has the honor of hosting the internationally recognized, IRONMAN, since 2009, and this year is no different. IRONMAN unites the international sporting community to compete in one of the most scenic places in the Caribbean. The island of Cozumel welcomed its first event on September 30 with IRONMAN 70.3 and will be host to the occasion once again on November 18 with the famous IRONMAN Cozumel.
Continuing the momentum, Xel-Ha celebrates its tenth edition of the Xel-Ha Triathlon November 17-18 with the participation of 2,000 Olympic competitors in sprint, solo and beginner tracks. Xel-Ha's competitive track has also been the National Championship Triathlon's venue of choice for the past five years.
"Great sportsmanship is part of our culture, which is why we are honored to host some of the world's most competitive sporting events," said Darío Flota Ocampo, director of Quintana Roo Tourism Board. "We hope athletes and spectators enjoy these events as much as they enjoy our destination."
Also of interest in Cozumel is Hidden Mayan Trails, a new mountain biking tour that ties history, adrenaline and wellness into a thrilling adventure. Bikers, novice and skilled alike will cycle past rich tropics, original Mayan ruins and natural marvels. After finishing the new route, bikers can rest and enjoy a snack or beverage in the beauty of the jungle.
Chetumal was chosen to host the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tournament, where the best women's volleyball teams will meet for a unique world-class event from October 24-28. Celebrating its 12th year, Mayakoba Golf Classic takes place in Playa del Carmen from November 5-11. This gold classic made history as the first PGA Tour event to take place outside the United States and Canada.
Lastly, Cancun hosts the first-ever Senior Games of The Americas competition in Mexico. Occurring November 28 to December 12, Senior Games of the Americas is designed for adults 50 and older to showcase their strength in 11 sports disciplines, including trekking, pickleball, swimming, cycling, track and field, among others.
