The summer season has been good to the Riviera Nayarit.
Hoteliers are enjoying high occupancy rates while international travelers are arriving in droves and loving every minute of their stays.
According to a new report from the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau, there is no such thing as an "off" season in the resort area anymore. There's just "high" and "medium."
"The constant training of travel agents and meeting planners, as well as the implementation of promotion, public relations and marketing strategies continue to bring positive results. With an increase in the number of visitors and high occupancy levels in the year to date, we expect an even better outcome this winter," said Marc Murphy, director general of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The Barometer Survey found that hotel occupancy reached 87.4 percent in July and saw an influx of 218,000 visitors, both foreign and domestic. Occupancy rates during August remained steady and visitation reached 305,813, which was well above the 276,284 visitors that traveled to the region during the same time last year.
The summer season wasn't just a blip on the radar; Results have been strong for overall for the first part of the year.
From January to July 2017, hotel occupancy averaged 80.5 percent and overnight visitors reached 1,399,498-well above the 1,230,704 that visited in the first seven months of 2016 and an increase of more than 13 percent.
Other statistical milestones include a rise in tourism revenue year over year from $161,555,762 to $1,722,146,711. Room rates rose 2.7 percent while average expenditures from U.S. visitors increased from $1,306.84 to $1,457.66, and the towns of Compostela and San Blas saw higher revenues due to higher hotel occupancy rates.

Guest satisfaction is one of the key drivers behind the region's success noted Murphy, who highlighted the fact that Riviera Nayarit's gateway town of Nuevo Vallarta was said to be one of the most friendly cities in Latin America by Expedia.com.
"Although some may think it's just another award, it really is the result of hard work and quality of service as well as the kindness and hospitality that we provide to everyone traveler who comes to the destination," said Murphy.
The July Barometer survey does indicate that people who visit Riviera Nayarit come away satisfied: Overall satisfaction of visitors is scored at 9.4 for U.S. travelers and 9.3 for those traveling from Canada.
