Experiencing India's most iconic attraction will cost more for locals and tourists alike.

Authorities in Agra, India have announced increased ticket prices for the Taj Mahal amid overtourism, CNN reported.

Admission to the renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site jumped to 250 rupees ($3.50) for Indian citizens and 1000 rupees ($13.50) for international tourists. On top of that, visitors will be charged an additional 200 rupees ($2.75) to visit the main mausoleum.

All children under the age of 15 will still be admitted free of charge.

The increased admission isn't the first measure the Indian government has taken to combat overtourism at the Taj Mahal, which has led to massive crowds and even structural damage in some cases. Earlier this year, a three-hour cap was put on the length of visits.

The Taj Mahal hosts about seven million visitors annually.

Commissioned in the early- to mid-17th century by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his late wife, the iconic tourist attraction has undergone several restoration efforts of late, including a mud-pack cleaning treatment on the mausoleum's most prominent ivory dome.
