It’s hardly any secret by this point that solo travel is booming. There have been numerous reports confirming as much in recent years. Most recently, The Luxury Solo Travel Report from Go2Africa revealed that 2026 has seen the largest increase in interest in solo travel ever, with 1.6 million searches of “solo travel” during the month of January alone.
All of which begs the question, where are all the solo travelers going?
GuruWalk, a free tour platform, has just released a ranking answering that question. The company used 12 months of real booking data across the 150 most visited cities on its platform from June 2025 to June 2026 to identify the 50 cities worldwide that attract the highest proportion of solo travelers.
And, drumroll please…. The most visited city globally for solo travelers is Toronto, Canada. More than 1 in 2 travelers (50.5%) book tours there alone, making it the highest rate of any city in the ranking, according to GuruWalk.
It’s easy to understand why: Toronto is one of the most diverse cities in the world, and you can feel it from the very first walk.
“Its neighborhoods — Kensington Market, Distillery District, Chinatown — are entirely different worlds just minutes apart from each other, and totally perfect for exploring without a fixed plan,” says the GuruWalk report. “Perhaps that is why more than half of those who book a free tour in Toronto do so alone, making this city the number one destination in this ranking of top destinations for the solo traveler.”
Beyond Toronto’s slot at the top of the ranking, it’s also worth noting that Asian cities dominate the top 10. Taipei, Taiwan comes in at #4, followed by Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (#5), Hong Kong at #7 and Singapore is #9.
The popularity of Latin American cities rivals that of Asia, with destinations like São Paulo, Brazil at #3 and La Paz, Bolivia being #6 in popularity for solo globetrotters.
Not a single U.S. city made the top 50 on the ranking. This may be due to the image of the United States under the Trump Administration, with border entry being more fraught with challenges including lengthy detentions or entry being denied altogether. Some opinion polls have showed that international travelers have less favorable opinions of this country. A CNBC survey published in late 2025 revealed that nearly 80 percent of Southeast Asian travelers say the United States is “losing its appeal as a travel destination.”
According to the survey, such sentiments are being driven by fears surrounding potential discrimination, actions by the Trump administration and widespread gun violence in the United States.
