WHY IT RATES:
For travelers looking for an adventure, the Black Forest is everything you want and more.—Donald Wood, News Editor.
Spring arrives first in the holiday region at the western edge of the Black Forest. In Kaiserstuhl, the first almond trees are already in bloom, and entire streets along the western edge of the region are bathed in the soft pink glow of Japanese cherry
trees. In the Rhine Plain, the canola fields shine brightly, and along field edges and in forest clearings, the yellow woad flowers bloom. Soon, in Markgräflerland, Kaiserstuhl, and Ortenau, hundreds of thousands of cherry and apple trees will enchant
the landscape with their white and soft pink blossoms – these blossom hikes are guaranteed to give you a sense of spring. www.wandern-schwarzwald.info
Orchard Meadows and Roman Remains on the "Cherry Tree Path"
The full magic of the "Cherry Tree Path" unfolds in Kaiserstuhl at the western edge of the Black Forest holiday region during the spring months. Spanning around 23 kilometers, it leads through orchard meadows with impressive high-stem trees from Sasbach
to Riegel. The path runs parallel to old Celtic and Roman trade routes and settlements, with remnants still visible at Limberg and near Riegel. A stop can also be made under the massive "Kaiser-Stuhl" near Leiselheim. www.naturgarten-kaiserstuhl.de
Blossom Hike Around Endingen
Thousands of cherry trees between Königschaffhausen and Kiechlinsbergen in the northern Kaiserstuhl provide an unforgettable backdrop for a blossom hike: On the approximately eight- kilometer-long trail, hikers of all ages can experience the awakening
of spring up close. If you fill your hiking backpack with regional specialties beforehand, you can spread your picnic blanket right under the fruit trees. The tour becomes even more enjoyable with prior registration on April 12th and 13th, 2025: Along
the route, five stations offer culinary delights paired with wines from the cellars of Königschaffhausen and Kiechlinsbergen. Adults pay 70 euros.
"Rundumwegli" Through Markgräflerland
The "Rundumwegli" in Müllheim takes you through the hilly vineyards of Markgräflerland on a total of four stages covering nearly 37 kilometers. A great option for a day hike is the "Field, Forest, and Meadow" tour: Spanning almost 15 kilometers, it offers
breathtaking views of the Upper Rhine Plain and the 1165-meter-high Blauen mountain, with its distinctive observation tower. The circular route is especially impressive during the fruit tree bloom. www.muellheim-touristik.de
Leisurely Blossom Hike in Kappelrodeck
The "Red Wine Village" of Kappelrodeck is beautifully nestled between expansive orchards and rich vineyards, directly along the "Badische Weinstraße." In spring, more than 60,000 fruit trees transform the landscape into a sea of blossoms. The nearly six-kilometer-long
blossom hike starts at the station and follows a beautiful arc to the fields and back, offering a perfect route for a leisurely tour. Two large distilleries and around 400 small distillers process the local fruits. www.achertal.de
Fine Spirits and Noble Distillates on the Oberkircher "Brennersteig"
Thanks to its fruit diversity, the Renchtal in the central Black Forest boasts more than 1,000 schnapps distilleries that distill fine spirits and noble distillates from local fruits. In the 21,000-inhabitant town of Oberkirch alone, more than 700 distillery
licenses are registered. Here, kirsch, plum, mirabelle, and other fruit spirits, as well as raspberry schnapps, fruit and topinambur brandies, are produced. Along the roughly 14-kilometer-long "Brennersteig," numerous distilleries invite visitors
to sample their products. On request, the distilleries can also be visited. The round hike on the "Brennersteig" is especially beautiful during the blossom period. www.renchtal-tourismus.de
"Fruit and Farm Shop Loop" Near Oberkirch
The Schwarzwald's reputation as "Germany's most beautiful corner for food lovers" is authentically supported by the farmers' markets and farm shops of local producers: Here, you can buy fresh local products and regional delicacies at fair prices. The
"Fruit and Farm Shop Loop" near Zusenhofen, close to Oberkirch in the central Black Forest, is particularly recommendable during the blossom and harvest seasons, allowing visitors to experience what is mainly grown in the Renchtal: cherries, plums,
apples, and various berries, with strawberries leading the way. The approximately ten- kilometer-long route passes seven farm shops, so don't forget your shopping bag and small change!
Colorful Walk: "Forest and Rose Loop" in Baden-Baden
Baden-Baden, a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the "Great Spa Towns of Europe," is known for its spring blooms of crocuses, magnolias, and cherry blossoms that brighten the spa town. The "Forest and Rose Loop" begins at the Kurhaus (pictured): Passing
the Trinkhalle, the path leads over Michaelsberg with its large sequoia trees and blooming magnolias, through a forest, and to the Rose New Variety Garden on Beutig. Along the Lichtentaler Allee, lined with ornamental cherry trees, the nearly four-kilometer-long
trail leads back to the Kurhaus. www.baden-baden.com
