Destinations along the East Coast, as well as in Mexico and across the Caribbean, are trending for summer travel, according to Tripadvisor’s new Summer Travel Index.
Domestic Destinations Taking Top Spots This Summer
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is the top trending domestic summer travel destination for Americans. Following that, by order of popularity, are New York City, Chicago, Las Vegas, Ocean City, Key West, Panama City Beach, Seattle, Clearwater and Nashville.
International Summer Escapes
Cancun topped the international destination list for the third summer in a row, with travelers taking advantage of the warm-weather destination’s cheaper summer season to snorkel, visit cultural heritage sites and hang out on the beach.
Following Cancun, in order of popularity, are Paris, London, Rome, Bavaro, Cabo San Lucas, Barcelona, Palm - Eagle Beach in Aruba, Vancouver and Oranjestad. Warm-weather, tropical destinations and big city escapes continue to be top-of-mind for American travelers this summer.
The Fastest-Growing Destinations
Tripadvisor ranked the top five fastest-growing destinations based on year-over-year growth in both domestic and international categories.
Domestically, these destinations include Orlando, Longboat Key, Pensacola Beach (all in Florida), Baltimore and Charlotte. Internationally, the fastest-growing destinations by popularity include Green Island in Jamaica, The Bight Settlement in Turks and Caicos, Kyushu in Japan, Bilbao in Spain and Tropea in Italy.
Where are Travelers Headed for Memorial Day?
Americans are planning trips for the extended Memorial Day holiday. Where are they going?
Domestically, Anaheim, California, takes first place, with families choosing to take advantage of the extended holiday weekend to visit Disneyland. Following Anaheim are Orange Beach, Alabama; St. Pete Beach, Florida; Reno, Nevada; and Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Those heading further abroad are visiting Rome, Toronto, Porto, Bavaro and Grace Bay.
Where are Travelers Visiting for the 4th of July?
Beach destinations are the most popular for Americans looking to celebrate Independence Day weekend in a new locale.
Domestic travelers are visiting Myrtle Beach, Pigeon Forge (home to Dollywood Theme Park), Clearwater, Virginia Beach and Panama City Beach. International travelers are heading to Rome, Bavaro, Cap Cana, Palm - Eagle Beach and Oranjestad.
