In light of the tragedy involving the mini-submarine that imploded while exploring the wreckage of the Titanic two miles below the ocean surface, a Las Vegas attraction has altered its performances.
The song, ‘My Heart Will Go On’, was an anthem of sorts for the James Cameron film version of Titanic.
It was performed by singer Celine Dion and won an Academy Award in 1999. It has been part of the Streetmosphere performances at St. Mark’s Square at The Venetian’s Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian hotel. But now it is being temporarily shelved.
The mini-submarine exploded after it could not apparently handle diving to such a low depth in the ocean. Five men were killed.
“Streetmosphere” is free of charge and features performers singing in the promenade of the hotel. The decision was made by hotel management after several complaints that the song was inappropriate.
Ken Henderson of Best Agency teamed with the hotel to produce the show. In an interview, he said the move was “just a pause,” and, “the mall management and Best Agency certainly would not want to offend anyone.”
He said he believes the song will be reinserted into the rotation of the performances in due time.
