Entertainment-obsessed travelers can visit Wales on a new "Game of Thrones"-inspired vacation package.
Tenon Tours, a company specializing in Britain travel, has created its latest program to reflect similarities between Wales, a land of dragons, myths and medieval monarchs, and HBO's award-winning show. Britain's ancient castles, diverse scenery and vast countryside make it a popular filming location; and, as more travelers request vacations of cinematic proportions, the country is well equipped for the task. According to VisitBritain's Film is GREAT Guide for International Media, 40 percent of potential visitors would be "very likely" to visit places from films or television.
This one-of-a-kind, self-drive tour includes entrance to Caernarfon Castle, a 13th-century fortress built by King Edward I; a day tour of Snowdonia, a mountainous region in Wales with rugged landscapes and plush greenery; and a hop-on, hop-off bus tour that features Conwy, a medieval, walled town located next to the sea.
"Game of Thrones" fans traveling to Wales will notice the red dragon that adorns the Welsh flag - an emblem symbolizing the country's legends. The tale dates back to the Mabinogion, a selection of medieval stories, when a red dragon (symbolic of the native Welsh) rises up to defeat the opposing white dragon (symbolic of the Saxons) - a story reminiscent of the series' conflict for the Iron Throne.
Tenon Tours also offers a "Game of Thrones" itinerary in Ireland. Set-jetters can combine these two vacation packages for a truly Celtic adventure. Travelers looking for a more basic overview of the country can try one of Tenon Tours' new Wales Hopper Tours. These vacations allow visitors to combine the structure of a guided tour with the flexibly of creating their own schedule.
Tenon Tours' offers three semi-escorted, Wales Hopper Tours: a 5-Night Llandudno city stay, a 5-Night Best of Southern Wales tour and a 7-Night Wales Explorer package.
