Winter 2015's wrath continues with Winter Storm Octavia. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain will fall on the Rockies, Central Plains, middle Mississippi Valley, Mid-South, Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic and possibly New England, affecting travel as the system moves across the U.S, Weather.com reports.
The southern part of Missouri, the area of the Ohio River, and parts of the Mid-Atlantic could see 5 inches or more of total snowfall, while Kentucky into the southern and central Appalachians might see up to a foot of snow. New York City and southeast New England get off easy this time, with a relatively light dusting of snow predicted.
Ice accumulations from freezing rain will be seen in Oklahoma, central Arkansas, northern Mississippi, northern Alabama, southern Tennessee, northern Georgia, and the Carolinas. Some of these areas will also see sleet and snow in addition to ice.
Sunday night into Monday sees Octavia move from the Rockies into the Central Plains, Ozarks, Ohio Valley, and the south-central Appalachians. The snow will reach the Mid-Atlantic, including Philadelphia and Washington D.C., by Monday night, while tapering off at points west. Tuesday's forecast is less defined, but the east coast from the Carolinas to New England will be getting precipitation ranging from a wintry mix to just snow.
Flightaware.com's data still reflects the effects of Winter Storm Neptune, but Memphis International is beginning to show cancellation numbers.
