In what is becoming a story of the summer, another woman has a roller coaster injury story. It’s the third rollercoaster incident to come to light in three weeks.
This time it happened at the famous Cedar Point Amusement Park on the shores of Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio.
A woman claims in a lawsuit that she is disabled for life because a piece of metal flew off a roller coaster and hit her. She is suing the park for negligence. The incident happened almost two years ago, but she just filed a lawsuit last week. It comes as amusement parks are facing questions over rider safety after a huge crack was found last month on a ride at Carowinds Park in North Carolina, and another incident in which a roller coaster was stuck upside down.
Law experts say that even though the woman’s incident happened two years ago, she is advantageous to take advantage of the timing of the latest problems.
The suit alleges she is owed more than $13 million in losses and medical expenses.
State investigators found last year that Cedar Point is not liable for the roller coaster issues, but it nonetheless has been closed since the woman was injured. State investigators found that the park did not act illegally.
The woman was hit by a metal bracket when the ride reached 120 miles an hour. The investigation found that several other bolts became loose or dislodged on the ride.
The lawsuit comes amid renewed calls for more safety inspections of high-speed rides.
