Since the hit adaptation of “The Last of Us” hit TV screens an HBO Original Series, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone these days who isn’t at least familiar with the award-winning PlayStation title from video game developer Naughty Dog.

Now, for the first time anywhere, iconic scenes and characters from the critically acclaimed, post-apocalyptic video game are set to spring to life this autumn as a brand-new Halloween Horror Nights haunted house at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Naughty Dog and PlayStation’s “The Last of Us” video game has taken the world by storm, captivating players—and now, television audiences—with its compelling narrative, set in a dystopian America after the world’s human population has been ravaged by a bizarre fungal pandemic that transforms humans into a unique new threat, known as “The Infected”. These frenzied, mindless monsters take on various forms over the course of their evolution, progressively becoming Runners, Stalkers, Clickers and Bloaters.

Event guests will find themselves immersed gruesome reality and overgrown ruins of “The Last of Us”, following in the footsteps of hardened survivors Joel and Ellie as they struggle to survive their brutal journey through the Pittsburgh Quarantine Zone. The haunted house will recreate some iconic locations from the game, including the eerie and desolate The Hotel Grand, and a labyrinth of dark and dank tunnels through which our protagonists must flee in an attempt to escape the various Infected and Hunters (a band of ruthlessly hostile humans) who are running rampant.

“As a massive fan – and frequent attendee – of Halloween Horror Nights, we are honored to have ‘The Last of Us’ included in this year’s lineup. It has been an incredible thrill for us at Naughty Dog to collaborate with Universal, bringing the world of the game to life, focusing on even the tiniest details that our fans know so well,” Naughty Dog Co-President Neil Druckmann said. “Having just celebrated the 10th anniversary of ‘The Last of Us,’ it’s a perfect time for our fans to team up with Joel and Ellie and come face-to-terrifying-face with Clickers, Raiders and much more!”

“We are excited to bring ‘The Last of Us’ to life in a terrifying haunted house that is true to the spirit of this popular video game featuring our heroes, Joel and Ellie, Clickers and more,” said Lora Sauls, Assistant Director, Creative Development and Show Direction at Universal Orlando Resort.

“The world inside the game offers a multitude of suspenseful and horrifying opportunities to provide guests with a one-of-a-kind experience that can only be found at Halloween Horror Nights,” added John Murdy, Executive Producer of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Consistently recognized as the “World’s Premier Halloween Event”, Halloween Horror Nights is a separately ticketed event that takes place on select nights, starting September 1 at Universal Orlando and September 7 at Universal Studios Hollywood, with events on both coasts running through October 31. Additional details, including more new haunted houses launching this year, will be revealed soon.

Tickets are now on sale for these after-hours special events in both locations, For Universal Studios Hollywood’s event, a variety of Halloween Horror Nights ticket types available, including General Admission, Universal Express and new Early Access Tickets, providing access to select haunted houses prior to the scheduled event (starting at 5:30 p.m., subject to change).

Universal Orlando’s event offers similar ticket options, along with premium event upgrades, like Express Pass, the nighttime R.I.P. Tour and the daytime Behind-the-Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tour. In Orlando, guests can also stay near the screams with a special vacation package that includes one-night admission to the Halloween Horror Nights event, five-night hotel accommodations, regular admission to all three Universal theme parks, and added benefits exclusive to Universal hotel guests, such as Early Park Admission during the day and access to a dedicated Halloween Horror Nights entry gate at night.
