The highly anticipated NBA Experience at Disney Springs at Florida's Walt Disney World Resort will officially open August 12, 2019.
The announcement was made at the Amway Center in Orlando during Monday night's Orlando Magic versus Philadelphia 76ers game and featured a surprise on-court appearance by Mickey Mouse.
The opening date announcement comes just three months after Disney shared new details of the interactive and hands-on experiences that will entertain guests.
Developed in collaboration with the NBA, the all-new attraction will feature more than a dozen experiences spread out across 44,000 square feet and two floors. One ticket to NBA Experience grants guests access to every activity in any order they choose.
Highlights will include a slam dunk challenge, shooting skills competition, trivia and even 180-degree cinematic presentations showcasing the in-arena experience just moments before tipoff.
"When we were young, we played basketball in our driveways or in the park, creating those imaginary moments of making the game-winning shot for a championship," said Stan Dodd, executive producer, Walt Disney Imagineering, in a statement. "We want to take that energy and help you feel what it's like to be an actual NBA or WNBA player."
In a statement last year, the NBA's President of Global Partnerships, Salvatore LaRocca said: "The NBA Experience will be a destination for basketball fans from all over the world and we are excited to partner with Disney to bring new and lifelong fans closer to the game."
The Disney Springs retail, dining and entertainment district in Lake Buena Vista, Florida is open daily.
