Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced on May 1 that it would close Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Bowie, Maryland, after the park’s 2025 operation season ends.
The park is around 500 acres and will be marked for redevelopment and sold. The park’s last operating day is November 2, 2025. All season passes and tickets will be honored through this date.
Six Flags America employs roughly 70 full-time employees. All eligible workers will receive severance and other benefits.
“As part of our comprehensive review of our park portfolio, we have determined that Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor are not a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan,” said Six Flags President & CEO Richard A. Zimmerman.
“After reviewing a number of options, we believe that marketing the property for redevelopment will generate the highest value and return on investment. We anticipate strong interest in the property and will continue to strategically pursue portfolio optimization opportunities as we work to unlock the full value of our portfolio.”
The closure isn’t expected to change the largest theme park operator’s financial forecast for the year. The company plans to invest around $1 billion to enhance its parks through its long-term growth plan.
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation manages 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks and nine resorts across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
