Universal Studios Hollywood announced on Monday that it
would open its new “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” roller coaster on
Wednesday, September 16.
The attraction will become the destination’s first outdoor,
high-speed roller coaster and the fastest coaster in the Universal Destinations
& Experiences portfolio. The new attraction is based on Universal Pictures’
“Fast & Furious” film franchise, with the next installment, “Fast Forever,”
scheduled to arrive in theaters in March 2028.
The Fast & Furious roller coaster will be located on the
Upper Lot inside a large, red-brick, garage-inspired structure. The ride will
feature 4,100 feet of aerial track and reach speeds of up to 72 miles per hour,
with ride vehicles capable of rotating 360 degrees to simulate drifting.
“Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” utilizes a
dual-launching, split-track system with four launches during the ride. The
layout includes an inverted dive loop, twisted pretzel loop, and inverted
stall, with riders experiencing forces of up to 3.6 Gs. The track will also
travel over and under portions of the park’s multilevel Starway escalator.
Travelers will ride in one of four vehicles modeled after
cars featured in the film franchise, including a Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7,
Nissan Skyline GT-R, and Toyota Supra. Each vehicle will have its own
independent audio system and engine sounds, along with individually designed
rotational movements.
The attraction’s queue will feature recreated props from the
films, including the Vault Truck from “Fast Five,” Letty Ortiz’s motorcycle
from “F9,” and the Rolling Bomb from “Fast X.” Universal will also incorporate
QR codes that provide additional behind-the-scenes information about selected
displays.
