Tourists and residents alike waking up to 2017 in southern California woke up to an alternate universe on Sunday - Hollyweed.
Not Hollywood.

The change in the sign is an apparent tribute to marijuana and a celebration of the ballot measure that made recreational marijuana legal for adults in California. Los Angeles city surveillance cameras caught someone dressed in black approach the iconic sign at about 3 a.m. California time on New Year's morning.
The sign - first erected in 1923 and renovated in 1978 after it fell into disrepair - is four stories high sitting near the summit of L.A.'s Mount Lee and serves as the symbol of the city's iconic film and television industry.
Fortunately, it was not damaged.
The anonymous prankster used black tarps to strategically place over the two letter O's to turn them into letter E's.
The sign has since been restored to its 'Hollywood' name.
