Traveling this Memorial Day weekend will prove hectic for many, especially for those Americans flying to their holiday destinations.

According to OAG's latest trend analysis, Friday, May 24 will be the worst day to fly as those 24 hours alone will account for more than 3.4 million domestic departing seats.

Fortunately, the U.K. air travel intelligence company has some helpful tips to take some of the stress out of flying this Memorial Day weekend. OAG analyzed a combination of 2019 capacity projections and historical data to help travelers know what to expect during the final weekend in May.

For example, California will be the most popular U.S. destination to kick off summer, welcoming 475,000 incoming domestic travelers. The Golden State is followed by Chicago, Florida and Seattle in terms of popularity this year.

OAG also found that Delta Air Lines is your best bet to reach your Memorial Day weekend destination on time as it recorded an on-time percentage of 85.2 percent last year.

In addition to Delta, travelers seeking a last-minute flight should look to American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, or United Airlines since the Big Four domestic carriers are offering more than 2.4 million combined seats this coming holiday weekend.

When it comes to getting to the airport this Memorial Day, passengers flying out of Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and Denver will want to leave themselves plenty of extra time and arrive earlier than usual to avoid long lines at check-in and security.

According to OAG's analysis, Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Denver International Airport will combine to account for more than a half-million departing seats.

If you're planning a last-minute Memorial Day vacation but aren't sure where to go, consider one of these vibrant cities, one of these growing destinations or one of these affordable places.
