An interactive Travel Risk Map for 2019 has been released and it shows the most dangerous countries on earth.
The map was launched by medical and security specialists International SOS and Control Risks.
It calculates risk according to road safety, security, and medical issues. Each country is given a color based on their risk rating that ranges from insignificant to extreme.
According to the map, Afghanistan, Somalia, Libya, Mali, Yemen, South Sudan, and Syria have the highest risks for travelers in terms of security.
The map even goes so far as to highlight high-risk areas of different countries. For instance, according to the map, only some areas of Mexico have high risk, while most areas are medium in risk. The same is done for India and Colombia.
In contrast, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, and Iceland have low-security risks and are therefore some of the safest counties to visit.
Travelers visiting African countries like South Sudan, Niger, Ivory Coast, and Sierra Leone, or Iraq, Venezuela, and Lebanon have a higher risk of contracting a disease or experience some medical issue.
Canada, the U.S., New Zealand and Japan have a low risk of disease, while Brazil, China, and Russia are under "variable risk."
Sally Napper, security specialist at International SOS and Control Risks told NZ Herald: "While almost half of decision-makers believe that travel risks will increase next year, our research reveals that the evolving travel habits of the modern workforce are being overlooked by many organizations."
