An exclusive partnership between Uber, and Tourism and Events Queensland has produced the world's first submarine rideshare experience -scUber - Coming to Queensland, Australia for a limited time only, from May 27 - June 18, 2019.

Those lucky enough to book passage will obtain an unfiltered lens onto Australia's greatest underwater icon and the world's largest living structure, which is home to 600 different types of coral, approximately 1,625 species of fish and more than 1,000 small islands.

Tourism and Events Queensland's Chief Executive Officer, Leanne Coddington, revealed, "In late 2018, consumer research identified that exploring the Great Barrier Reef in a submarine was the most desired future travel experience sought by visitors. "We're thrilled to partner with Uber to showcase the beauty of the reef through this innovative experience.

scUBer voyages will begin launching out of Heron Island in the Southern Great Barrier Reef region on May 27th before moving operations to the coast of Port Douglas in tropical North Queensland to continue there from June 9th through June 18th.

Today marks the start of Uber's partnership with Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef- a global social-purpose community dedicated to the ongoing protection and conservation the Great Barrier Reef, and reefs all over the world, using tech, data, and a collaborative approach to conservation.

scUber's launch will directly benefit Citizens' efforts, and the partnership with Uber will further focus on supporting several of the organization's initiatives, including the Reef Tracks program and the Great Reef Census, through a financial and resource investment program.

Susan Anderson, Regional General Manager of Uber, Australia and New Zealand, expressed the hope scUber's unique up-close perspective will inspire guests' appreciation of and desire to protect the world's precious coral systems.

"Uber is committed to harnessing the power of technology for good. We are proud to partner with Queensland to help showcase the Reef to the world with the launch of scUber… We're looking forward to seeing how visitors to the Great Barrier Reef embrace this new form of movement and becomes advocates of the reef for years to come."

scUber rides are charged at $1,500 AUD per person with a minimum cost of $3,000 AUD per ride (the current exchange rate is 1 UDS to 1.45 AUD). The cost includes scenic helicopter transfers to and from mainland Queensland, as well as Uber pickups and returns to guests' accommodations. The scUber submarine ride itself is one hour in duration and is bookable exclusively via the Uber app, so availability can't be guaranteed.

Lastly, in celebration of the launch, Queensland and Uber are sponsoring a global travel competition, which will award a scUber experience to one lucky winner and a friend from each of the following countries: USA, Canada, United Kingdom, France, New Zealand and Australia.
