But what’s the latest in other wild new travel trends?
Adam Duckworth, president and founder of Travelamtion, spoke recently on Access Daily about new weird travel trends popping up.
How about sportscations?
This is especially relevant with
the Summer Olympics in Paris less than a month away. It’s a trend in which
tourists originally go for a sports-related vacation but don’t confine
themselves just to the on-field activities. They also visit the local
environment in which they are in.
Europe is particularly inviting right now but unique, annual
events like the Super Bowl and Wrestlemania, in the United States are also big. The
Super Bowl, for instance, is in New Orleans next year and you could possibly
combine that with a vacation for Mardi Gras.
Of course, you could save a boatload of money and just
stay at home. Yes, staycations are still very much with us.
Another trend is called the buddymoon. This is when
couples get married and ask their family and friends to go on the honeymoon
with them. Getting a bulk rate, or a discount rate, or a rate for renting
multiple rooms is key here. Call it a couples trip with an occasion attached to
it.
One trend with staying power that came out of the
pandemic is bleisure vacations – a combination of a business trip with a
vacation.
Finally, there is a sleep-cation. It is exactly as the
name suggests. No sightseeing or tours here. This is for people who just want
to rest and recharge and want to do it away from home. In fact, there are
hotels geared towards this new trend that concentrate on sleepcations, including therapy and sleep
monitoring and studies.
