Expedia is expanding its partnership with Meta to allow
travelers in the United States to search for and book hotels through Meta’s
Muse artificial intelligence (AI) assistant.
According to PhocusWire.com, travelers can tell Muse their destination,
travel dates, and hotel preferences, and the AI assistant will present matching
hotel options and let travelers complete the booking.
Expedia will remain the merchant of record for hotel
reservations made through Muse, while payment will be completed within the AI
assistant.
Expedia has not announced a specific launch date for the
hotel-booking functionality.
The partnership between Meta and Expedia builds on existing
work between the companies, which are already testing conversational
advertisements that allow travelers to begin trip planning or ask questions
directly through Meta’s platforms.
Muse launched earlier this month with travel-booking
capabilities, initially including flights through an integration with travel
technology company Duffel and bookings made directly through airline websites.
Hotel bookings were identified as a future capability at launch.
