The orange light from the wood stove flickers on the intersecting planes of the thatched roof of the cottage as I lie here in room 34 of Granny Mouse Country House in Balgowan, South Africa.
When we drove in here yesterday evening it was still light. This little homestead, with its thatched cottages, immaculately manicured grounds and brightly colored flower gardens, set against the backdrop of the autumn shaded foothills of the uKhahlamba-Drakensbergwas, was almost too beautiful to believe. I felt like I was in the Land of Oz. As the sky turned shades of pink and purple after the sunset, it was almost unreal.
Out in the middle of what would be considered nowhere by most Americans, including me until now, in what is known as the Natal Midlands Meander in KwaZulu-Natal province South Africa, is an enchanted little hotel property that has everything you could want, and many things that never previously entered your imagination. It even has a great Wi-Fi signal, upon which these words will be transmitted. It's a place where once you get here, you feel like you would never want to leave.
Unfortunately for me, I will be leaving in a matter of minutes to move on, so this report must end now, though there is much more to say. Check out the website for more information.
