Travel + Leisure released the It List 2014 on Wednesday, naming 70 of the best new hotels and resorts in the world.
Selected by Travel + Leisure editors, the ninth annual list spotlighted a variety of properties from around the world. Europe featured 25 hotels, more than any other region on the list. The United States and Canada combined to feature 16 properties, while Asia boasted 12 spots. Seven properties combined to represent Africa and the Middle East. The Bedarra Island Resort in the Great Barrier Reef was the only property listed for the continent of Australia.
France, Italy, Turkey and the United Kingdom dominated Europe. Italy and the United Kingdom featured six properties each.
"Travel + Leisure's It List 2014 marks our ninth annual quest across the globe in search of new and innovative hotels," said Nancy Novogrod, Editor-in-Chief of Travel + Leisure. "This impressive roster of recently opened properties spans from Maui to Zambia, with stops in Costa Rica, Rome, and Siem Reap along the way."
Travel + Leisure traveled the world to hand-select the hotels, taking note of tight-knit, artsy communities, beautiful and serene beaches, and trend-inspired modifications.
New York represented the United States the most with five properties.
