Bomb Threat Forces LATAM Plane to Land Early

Nine planes were forced to make emergency changes to their routes Thursday after several bomb threats were issued to Chile’s civil aviation authority.

According to Reuters.com, at least two of the planes were operated by LATAM Airlines and three were operated by low-cost Chilean airline Sky. In total, 11 threats were made, but all of the impacted flights were declared free of explosives.

“The affected passengers will be transferred by LATAM onto other flights,” a LATAM spokesperson told Reuters. “The authorities have not at this moment found any evidence that might put passengers at risk.”

Four of the flights were either scheduled to arrive or depart from Santiago, Chile.

A LATAM passenger plane was forced to land early after a bomb threat.

Flight 2369 was headed for Santiago, Chile, from Lima, Peru, and was forced to land in southern Peru after Chilean authorities received the threat.

According to a report in Reuters, none of the 144 passengers were injured and a team has been dispatched to search for an incendiary device and deactivate it.

This may not be the only report of a threat onboard a LATAM aircraft today.

According to Fox News, three other planes may have received threats, and one Twitter user reported that his flight, LA 433, from Mendoza to Santiago was being inspected after a bomb threat.
