An Indian hotel has come under fire for refusing to let a woman check in simply because she was single.
According to News.com.au, the Hotel Deccan Erragadda in Hyderabad, India, turned Nupur Saraswat away at the front desk despite the fact she had already booked her stay through third-party booking website Goibibo.
"Yup, massive bag in hand, gross from the journey-just standing outside the hotel. Somehow they decided I was safer on the streets than in the hotel," Saraswat wrote in a Facebook post on Friday.
Saraswat, a spoken word artist from Singapore, encouraged social media users to "make a scene."

The post was eventually liked and shared thousands of times, and Goibibo confirmed it had de-listed the hotel from its site pending an investigation just two days later.
"We gave Nupur an upgrade and higher rated hotel totally complementary. We refunded the full amount for the hotel Hotel Deccan Erragadda that was booked," the site said in a blog post.
The hotel's policy bars locals, single women and unmarried couples from staying there. However, the hotel says it isn't attempting to be discriminatory and cites safety reasons for the bizarre protocol.
"We are not against single women staying in our hotel. As per local police interaction, we don't give rooms to single women and unmarried couples," Hotel Deccan Erragadda said in a statement.

Saraswat confirmed that Goibibo resolved the issue and thanked Facebook users for spreading the word in another post on Saturday.
"Women are going to travel alone, and travel EVERYWHERE," she wrote. "The companies who will survive are the ones who can keep up with this."
