UPDATE: 9:30 a.m. ET 1/8/2018

After a wild weekend at John F. Kennedy International Airport that included frozen pipes breaking, flooded terminals, system failures and power shutdowns, the Port Authority is warning the delays and cancelations will continue into Monday.

According to FlightAware.com, 10 flights were canceled and another 32 were delayed, which was a drop from the 19 inbound and 39 outbound flights canceled or delayed earlier Monday morning.

The cancellations and delays were caused by a water pipe break flooded the arrivals hall at Terminal 4 just before 2 p.m. local time Sunday. As cleanup efforts continue, the Port Authority has launched an investigation into what caused the interior pipe to break.

"What happened at JFK Airport is unacceptable, and travelers expect and deserve better," Port Authority executive director Rick Cotton told NBC New York. "While the water pipe break that occurred appears to be weather-related, we have launched an investigation into the incident to determine exactly what occurred and why an internal pipe was not weather protected and whether any other failures contributed to this disruption."

Terminal 4 at New York City's JFK International Airport shut down Sunday afternoon after a water leak flooded the baggage claim area.

The terminal, which serves as a major hub for international flights as well as for Delta Airlines, was shut down by officials around 3:30 pm EST as water began to fill the hallways, soaking both passengers and their luggage.

All flights headed into Terminal 1 Sunday evening have been canceled in addition to some other international flights in order to let officials work on the situation and keep luggage issues from piling up even further.

The incident only exacerbated current issues with delays and cancelations due to the weather.
