Weather-wise,
this summer has been like the proverbial pebble in the shoe for airlines and
cruise lines – not quite enough to be a major disturbance but enough to cause
discomfort.
Helene is
the latest that could be problematic. A
tropical
storm warning is currently in effect for September 16 in the
Carolines.
Helene
is expected to make landfall on Monday afternoon near the popular vacation
towns of Myrtle Beach, Pawleys Island and Conway, South Carolina.
Helene
will bring the threat of wind gusts up to 55 mph, waves up to 11 feet, heavy
rain possibly reaching 10 inches and possible flash flooding. Several major airlines service Myrtle Beach
and other areas in North and South Carolina and several major cruise lines
visit Charleston, South Carolina, as well as Wilmington, North Carolina.
The
storm is expected to move up the East Coast and threatens to cause a problem in
Washington, D.C. Parts of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia could also be
