A man has been arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation after he allegedly wrote a note that contained a bomb threat during a flight and pretended to find it before notifying crew members of his discovery.
According to 9News.com, 20-year-old Cameron Korth was on United Airlines Flight 231 from San Diego to Denver when he allegedly wrote the bomb threat at his seat before taking it to the bathroom and placing it on the toilet seat cover dispenser.
Korth then allegedly brought the note to the attention of attendants working the flight, which prompted the pilot to radio Denver International Airport and notify authorities of the possible bomb threat.
The plane managed to land safely in Denver a short time later and was isolated on the runway. The Denver Police Department brought in explosive detection canines that searched the plane while passengers were evacuated and placed onto waiting buses.
The investigation found no evidence of explosives.
The Denver Police Department and the Denver division of the FBI—who handled the investigation of the incident—asked Korth to write his account of what happened. From his writing, authorities noticed similarities to the writing on the note and he was arrested.
Korth has been charged with maliciously conveying false information, which can result in a 10-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $250,000.
