The U.S. State Department will be releasing a limited-edition U.S. passport honoring America’s 250th anniversary, with one politically charged decision: to feature President Trump’s image and his signature on the inside cover.
The news broke exclusively through FOX News this week, with both State Department and White House officials confirming it.
ABC News spoke with a White House official, who explained, “President Trump’s new patriotic passport design provides yet another great way Americans can join in the spectacular celebrations for America’s 250th birthday. President Trump continues to proudly lead a renewal of national pride and patriotism during our historic semiquincentennial celebration.”
The State Department posted mock-ups of the inside and outside of the new commemorative passports on social media this week. The passport will be available for a limited time, until stock runs out, through the Washington Passport Agency, with no option to opt out of receiving the limited-edition passport.
Those who are required to renew their passports this year but do not want the limited-edition passport should note that the online passport renewal system and other passport offices will issue the standard passport design, so most travelers renewing their passports won’t receive the limited-edition one.
