Leading U.S. travel organizations are calling on lawmakers to enact lasting solutions to prevent additional government shutdowns resulting in crippling travel impacts.

This week, the U.S. Travel Association, Airlines for America (A4A) and the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) praised the House passage of the Senate funding measure to keep the federal government open until mid-December.

However, travel industry leaders are still adamant that Congress needs to find a long-term fix to ensure that essential employees such as TSA officers and air traffic controllers aren't forced to work without pay in the event of another government work stoppage.

"Today’s House vote is welcome progress, but travelers and the people who keep America moving have seen this movie before: another temporary fix, followed by more of the same uncertainty," the three organizations said in a statement published Tuesday.

"Congress needs to deliver the annual appropriations bills and enact a lasting solution that ensures TSA officers and air traffic controllers are never again asked to work without pay due to a government shutdown," the statement continued.

"America's travel system is too important to our economy—and to millions of travelers—to keep putting it at risk."

Tuesday's statement comes one month after U.S. Travel, A4A and AHLA sent a joint letter encouraging Congress to quickly enact a stopgap funding bill before the previous September 30 deadline.
