For LGBTQ travelers, New York City should be on your bucket list. There's so much to see and do in this multicultural city, you could easily spend a week just soaking in the sights and culture.

But what if you had only a day? A mere 24 hours?

What are the must-see things that you just have to do? Here's a rundown of some ideas:

The High Line

This long-abandoned, elevated freight line was turned into one of the world's most creative parks in 2009. Designed by James Corner Field Operations, the landscape architecture has been widely praised. The 1.45-mile-long park runs along the west side of Manhattan, including through the Meatpacking District and Chelsea.

Walking along its length gives some spectacular views of the city, and a busy calendar means there's always something to do-yoga, dancing, stargazing, performances and more.

The AIDS Memorial

Located in the Village, this new memorial sits next to the old St. Vincent's Hospital, where the city's first AIDS ward was located. It's a relative newcomer to the city, having just opened in December 2016. New York lost more than 100,000 people to this awful disease, and this moving memorial pays homage to those who were lost and those who fought to save others.

Stonewall

This recently designated National Monument includes Sheridan Square and recognizes the famed Stonewall Uprising on June 28, 1969-widely viewed as the beginning of the modern LGBTQ civil rights movement.

Here, you can learn about the early days of the struggle, as well as Christopher Park and its history, along with the historic Greenwich Village neighborhood that surrounds the site.

Christopher Street Pier

If the weather's nice, this is a great place to soak up some sun, and it's a popular gay hangout. The 850-foot pier features seating areas, lawn areas, and places to sit in the shade, too. When you tire of sunbathing-or watching the sunbathers-you can grab a bite at the pier's café.

The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art

Located at 26 Wooster Street, this museum is the world's first solely dedicated to LGBTQ art. The main gallery hosts 6 to 8 exhibitions per year, as well as plays, poetry, panel discussions and film screenings.

Broadway

This is a must-do, and one of the "gayer" shows (wait, aren't they all???) is Kinky Boots.

If you have the energy left, make sure to get down to the Al Hirschfeld Theater and see this Cyndi Lauper-penned musical, now in its 5th year on Broadway. The show won six Tonys in 2013, including Best Musical.
