MGM Resorts International has promoted Chuck Bowling to the position of president and COO of Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. The company also appointed Richard Harper to Bowling's former role as executive vice president of sales and marketing for MGM Resorts International. In his new role, Bowling is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the 4,300-room resort, including THEhotel at Mandalay Bay.
Bowling joined the company in 1998 as vice president of sales for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and has served in several capacities before being named into his current position. Prior to joining the company, he worked for 10 years in sales and marketing positions with Westin Hotel and Resorts in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Palm Springs and San Francisco. Before joining Westin, he worked with Stouffer Hotels and Omni Hotels. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the Nevada Commission on Tourism and Meeting Planners International. He also serves on the Executive Committee for the U.S. Travel Association.
As executive vice president of sales and marketing for MGM Resorts, Harper has taken over executive oversight for company sales strategies; regional sales efforts in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.; diversity sales; industry relations; MGM Resorts Events; the Corporate Audio Visual department; and the Corporate Contact Center. In addition, he offers strategic oversight for the company's regional and vertical sales efforts, manages and enhances the strategy for all national sales office relationships, and develops and executes a companywide sales strategy for top destination accounts.
Before this position, Harper served as senior vice president of sales for MGM Resorts International, and just prior, he was senior vice president for Mandalay Bay, where he oversaw operations for the 1.7 million-square-foot Convention Center, including group sales, leisure sales, trade show sales and convention services; exhibitor services; catering; Mandalay Bay Productions; Wedding Chapel; and floral. He began his career with the company in 1999 as vice president of sales for the MGM Grand. Before joining MGM Resorts, he was director of sales and marketing for Westin Hotels and Resorts.
