The 'Skype Bot' came out in March of this year, and it looks like Expedia will be the latest to join the "Skype Bot Party."
Using artificial intelligence and the Microsoft Bot Framework, customers can get personalized service rather than call those customer support lines or worrying about filling out forms on the site. "Users can converse with these intelligent agents to get their questions answered or issues resolved and in some cases, complete entire transactions," according to eWeek.
By 2017, customers may be able to book travel with Expedia via Skype.
"With the Expedia bot, you can easily search for hotels, quickly book, manage reservations, and confirm or cancel hotels and flights," wrote the Microsoft Skype team in a blog post. "And should you ever have a question the bot can't answer, Expedia is proud to be one of the first bots that allow calling directly to Expedia, free of charge."
A bot that most of us are already familiar with is from UPS. The package carrier bot lets you track packages and calculate shipping rates, as well as ask personalized questions. StubHub is also embracing the bot to make it easier to purchase tickets to concerts and events according to Windows Central.
Windows Central mentions the service is not accessible quite yet, but when it is within your grasp, you should notice a significant change in your travel booking abilities.
"While not available to try just yet, the Expedia bot for Skype will let you quickly find and book hotel room, manage reservations, or confirm and cancel flights and hotels. Of course, the Expedia bot should be able to field any travel questions you have as well."
