Avanti Destinations knows Asia is full of tantalizing dining choices, but selecting the right place to eat and the right dishes are key to making the experience ideal for independent travelers.
In order to eliminate the fear factor of foreign food, Avanti Destinations has introduced four-hour dining experiences in China that include a private local guide and a specially selected menu.
"Food-focused activities are by far the most frequently requested experiences we book in all regions, including Asia," said Harry Dalgaard, Avanti's founder and CEO. "Our experienced Asia team and the enthusiastic expert local guides in every destination will make sure your clients have the gastronomic experience they are looking for. We give you options you won't find from a concierge or any other tour operator."
Asia is an ideal spot for these types of culinary experiences. China bookings for Avanti are up 40 percent as the region experiences a sustained tourism boom.
Japan and Thailand also remain Avanti's best-selling Asian destinations with China in third.
In Beijing, guests can visit Duck de Chine Sanlitun, a stylish, innovative duck restaurant with a French twist on traditional cuisine. There is a robust wine list, and the dining experience includes two starters, two main dishes, a side and a dessert for $189 per person.
Guests can also enjoy Hakkasan in Shanghai. The restaurant is housed in the famous Bund 18 building and features a striking design, an exceptional sommelier, and mixology as well as a menu created by Michelin-starred Tong Chee Hwee.
Hwee uses locally sourced ingredients and creates authentic yet untraditional dishes. The experience includes three starters, four mains, two sides, three desserts and is $345 per person.
Guests can also combine a tour with a culinary adventure. In Xian, the Night Tour with Dumpling Dinner at De Fa Chang gives visitors the opportunity to sample more than 20 types of dumplings as well as one drink. The meal is followed by a visit to the famous musical fountain.
There are also culinary options in Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo and around Asia.
