B-Corp certified responsible travel leader, Intrepid Travel, announced a new official partnership with the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) to protect the U.S. national parks as they face unprecedented funding threats.
Through its new United by Nature campaign, the tour operator is donating $50,000 through The Intrepid Foundation to the NPCA, which advocates for the National Park System.
Currently, the proposed federal budget would cut over $900 million in funding for the NPS, putting nearly 75 percent of the nation’s national parks at risk for closure due to lack of funds.
Intrepid is standing up with the NPCA to support two legislative priorities: urging Americans to sign a petition rejecting the $900 million in proposed cuts to the National Park Service and reintroducing the America the Beautiful Act to address the maintenance funding backlog that’s estimated at over $23 billion.
“It’s a critical moment to act,” said Leigh Barnes, President of the Americas at Intrepid Travel.
“These parks are more than just pretty places. They’re sacred lands, home to endangered wildlife, Indigenous history and the stories of generations. At Intrepid, our business depends on these wild places. But more importantly, our values demand we step up. And we’re asking the public to step up with us.”
Earlier in the year, Intrepid launched new limited-edition tours supporting the parks, called ‘Active-ism’ Trips, led by a local Intrepid guide and hosted by an environmental activist who will inform travelers how they can advocate for conservation and the environment.
